DOSSIER

HISTORY: Amy Elliott-Dunne Wikia, Gone Girl (film) Wiki, Gone Girl (novel) Wiki

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?:

+ Calculative
( Amy is not who does things without a plan. Every move that she makes is strategically placed, perfectly timed and for a much larger purpose. Amy doesn't simply run away in hopes that her husband will be made a suspect in her disappearance, but she goes as far as to stage an entire murder scene -- using a large amount of her own blood to make it as authentic as possible -- and crafting a diary full of fake entries that paint her husband Nick as a violent, abusive man. Which he isn't. )

+ Manipulative
( Amy fools an entire town into believing that she is someone she isn't. She stage manages her husband without even having to be there -- by way of a false narrative of abuse and exacerbated claims of martial problems through a diary she's created. She then changes her story to an ex-boyfriend, Desi Collings, kidnapping her and holding her captive. )

+ Cunning
( Amy is extremely good at thinking on her feet. She's able to answer a barrage of questions by authorities after she murders Desi Collings with ease. Making the entire act seem like self-defense.

+ Intelligent
( Amy graduated with degrees in journalism and psychology from both Harvard and Yale. )

WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?:

- Actual Sociopath
( Amy is first and foremost a sociopath. This is both one of her biggest strengths and also one of her biggest weaknesses. She feels absolutely no remorse when it comes to her actions and has no regard for her own safety or the safety of others. Amy has no qualms putting herself in harm's way in order to get the things that she wants. )

- Vengeful
( Amy takes her revenge to the extreme. Rather than leaving her husband when she discovers that he is having an affair, she instead plans to frame him for her murder -- taking things even one step further by planning to kill herself to ensure that her husband is given the death penalty. )

- Insecure
( Growing up in the shadow of fictional character Amazing Amy -- the book which her parents wrote that mirrored her own life -- Amy has always felt nothing she does is good enough. Amazing enough for her parents. )

WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?: Her husband, Nick Dunne's affair with one of his students. It's the point in their relationship when she realizes that she's become bored with him -- thus making her resent him, causing their marriage to start to turn sour.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?: Amy is motivated by revenge. She enjoys playing Old Testament God. When she finds out that he husband Nick is cheating on her, she immediately begins plotting a way to get back at him. Amy isn't satisfied with simple revenge, though, she does everything with dramatics and flair. Everything in an attempt to live up to the Amazing Amy name.

WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?: Outwardly Amy looks like your average middle-aged wife. She dresses fairly modestly and despite the fact that she's the inspiration for her parent's Amazing Amy books -- a popular children’s series about a perfect girl who overcomes all obstacles in her path -- she seems to be as "average" as everyone else. Amy is soft spoken, polite and eloquent, a loving and devoted wife despite making claims of her husband's abuse towards her.

IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?: Amy is, however, none of those things. She becomes easily bored with people -- even the ones that she does become interested it, it quickly peaks and fizzles away to nothing. -- when they no longer show any use to her and moves on to someone new.

HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?: Amy handles adversity by lying. She doesn't face adversity head on and instead, she attempts to manipulate everyone else's image of reality until it aligns with her own. She'll continue retelling the lie until it gets her out of whatever situation she doesn't want to find herself in.

WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?:

+ Her cheating husband Nicholas Dunne
( She remembers his infidelity vividly and the slow decline of their relationship with one another. This is a point in Amy's life that is vital to who she is, it's is the point where she finally accepts she's grown bored of Nick. When she feels like she's no longer the amazing woman he once viewed her as.)

+ Her plan to frame him for her murder.
(Amy will not remember that she's begun to carry out this plan, she'll only remember that she's in the planning stages of it. I think this will be an interesting angle to play with given the items that she shows up in Wayward Pines with.)

+ She lived in Manhattan.
( This is where Amy was the happiest with Nick, where she was a writer and where she was the most secure. Not only in her life, but in her relationship as well. Nick's cheating is such a large motivator for Amy that she needs to remember both the bad times with him as well as the good. )

+ Magazine Writer
( Hand in hand with her Manhattan memories is that she wrote personality quizzes for magazines)

+ Amazing Amy (especially the party for Amazing Amy's wedding)
( The series that mirrors her childhood -- with the exception that for every little mistake she makes, Amazing Amy does the right thing. It's been the main source of Amy's insecurity since she was a little girl. It's the reason that Amy strives to go above and beyond with everything that she does.)

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?: Amy Elliott-Dunne is a manipulative sociopath and an unreliable narrator. She's extremely good at packaging herself to what she feels is the most appealing to people, and what will get her things that she wants. She often lies and tells exaggerated tales in order to paint herself in a better light. (I will have an opt-out post for those who are not comfortable with this personality type.)
